Not strictly a song about Diwali, this Bollywood hit is featured in the background of Diwali celebrations and has become synonymous with this festival of light. Diwali itself is a Hindu festival that symbolises the metaphorical victory of light over darkness and is celebrated by millions across the world, even from other faiths including Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs. Whilst Indian music is diverse in its nature, due to the myriad of cultures and languages that are contained within the nation, Bollywood music is perhaps the most well-known due to its international outreach. The song itself is performed by legendary actors Aamir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka and the choreography is reminiscent of the performance of Summer Nights by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in Grease.
